Seems as if The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea has some legs now! They have added a few actors (Stephen Collins and Mary Steenburgen) to the cast and had a read through yesterday! Also, they have updated the poster to reflect Jeffrey Dean Morgan taking over the role that Zach Braff once occupied. Stay tuned for more news!

Christmas date for ‘Playing the Field’

FilmDistrict has moved back its opening of romantic comedy “Playing the Field” from March 9 to Christmas Day.

“Playing the Field” would have faced competition on the earlier date from Disney’s “John Carter,” Sony’s “Think Like a Man,” Relativity’s “The Raven” and Open Road’s “Silent House.” Christmas features a pair of Leonardo DiCaprio titles — “The Great Gatsby” from Warner Bros. and “Django Unchained” from The Weinstein Co.

“Playing the Field” stars Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel along with Judy Greer, Dennis Quaid, Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Story centers on the homecoming of a retired soccer pro whose glory days are behind him, moves to Virginia to reconnect with his estranged ex-wife and neglected son and starts to coach the boys’ soccer team.

FilmDistrict, launched in 2010 by Graham King and Tim Headington, acquired domestic rights to “Playing” from Nu Image/Millenium during last year’s Cannes Film Festival. A spokesman for FilmDistrict indicated Thursday that the date shift was made to take advantage of holiday season moviegoing.

The shift comes a month after FilmDistrict agreed to a three-film distribution deal with Open Road, under which Open Road will release scifier “Escape From M.S. One,” starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace, on April 20, and the “Red Dawn” remake on Nov. 2. The third film hasn’t been selected.

Jessica presenting at 2012 Golden Globes?

I was watching Access Hollywood and apparently she will be presenting an award at the Golden Globes this Sunday. It is unclear which one yet. Hopefully this is true! If so, pictures will be posted on the day.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel - Engaged!

Jessica Biel may be engaged to Justin Timberlake, but there’s another important woman in his life — and she’s given her blessing to the couple’s pending nuptials.

Justin’s grandmother, Sadie Bomar, has confirmed reports of the couple’s engagement, saying, “Yes, Justin is engaged,” and she’s obviously very pleased with the match.

“Jessica is a very sweet girl, she’s upright and everything and we love her,” Sadie said.

She’s a wonderful campaigner for the environment and Justin is too, a fine young man. Jessica will be a lovely member of the family.”

She continues: “They don’t know if the wedding will be in Memphis or Colorado, it’s all very new they haven’t made any plans yet. Justin, his mum and dad and Jessica have all been in Montana all Christmas and New Year, that’s when he proposed. Justin rang me himself on Christmas day to tell me about the engagement.

“You know Justin he’s a very laid back he was excited but he don’t make a big episode out of anything. It just seemed like the right time for him I guess.”

Raving about her famous grandson, Sadie goes on to say: “Justin loves me and I love him too, he’s a big part of my life. I don’t know all the details yet but we just love Jessica and the whole family is happy for him. Now we have a lovely wedding to look forward to.

When asked why Justin finally decided to pop the question, Sadie revealed that it just “felt right” for him now.

Congratulations, Justin and Jessica! Also, here is People’s confirmation of the engagement.

Jessica Biel hooks ‘Truth About Fishes’

Having wrapped a lead role in Sony’s upcoming reboot of “Total Recall,” Jessica Biel is returning to the indie scene, as she’s in final negotiations to star opposite Kaya Scodelario in Francesca Gregorini’s “c.”

Gregorini wrote the script, which follows Emanuel (Scodelario), a troubled 17-year-old girl who babysits her new neighbor Linda’s “baby,” which is actually a very life-like doll. She goes along with the delusion while befriending Linda, who happens to be the spitting image of Emanuel’s late mother.

Biel is in talks to play Linda, who has been completely traumatized by the death of her child and now cares for the baby doll as if it were actually alive.

Biel, who can currently be seen in Garry Marshall’s “New Year’s Eve,” next stars opposite Gerard Butler in Gabriele Muccino’s comedy “Playing the Field,” which is skedded for release on March 9. Thesp also toplines David O. Russell’s long-delayed indie “Nailed,” as well as Pascal Laugier’s thriller “The Tall Man.”

Biel is repped by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Karl R. Austen.
